Tartarus

“I can’t find you / In this small room. / I don’t even know your name, / You’re just another and I’m just the same.”

3-hander, 60 mins, gig theatre, LGBTQ+

Blending heart-thumping music with alternative Greek myths, Tartarus is a musically charged gig-theatre odyssey that reclaims queer identity from the many tortured men of the afterlife.

A personal story of self-discovery, Tartarus follows a lovelorn Orpheus, forced to reassess everything after his great love Eurydice declares that she’s ‘just not physically attracted’ to him.

Realising that these words echo his own feelings about her, he embarks on a quest to discover what he wants out of love. Drawn to troubled male figures from Hades to Narcissus to Sisyphus, his journey through the underworld will chart the complex journey of figuring out who he is, fighting gay shame and queer confusion with open-hearted desire.

An R&D sharing was performed at Omnibus Theatre in Dec ‘25. A three-day run was subsequently produced by Springbok Production House for Bokfest 2026 at the Hope Theatre, with dramaturgy from Chronic Insanity and Rhys Warrington.

We are looking to undertake a funded R&D to further develop the script and music, strengthen and create partnerships, and build the show’s future life.
